Sometimes she stays
Tonight she’s been on an escapade
She seemed so wired all day
Spills the ashtray, she’s faded
She speaks of mice and angels
Says 'Daddy, I don’t deserve you'
And I say 'babe, lights out, it’s so late'
But she gets up, staggers around
Before she makes a sound
And then she’s splayed naked on the ground
I bring towels
And lay her down
And wait around to make sure she’s okay
When she wakes
She don’t remember when she said
Many days she’d catch my gaze and wonder
What is the reason for your saving face?
She says babe, hey, I’m wide awake
So I choke her out and pin her down
And we wrestle as if we were meeting
For the last time of our lives
Cause the lines between when we fight and when we love
Are what keep us dancing through the pain
And then she’s wide awake again
She’s sweating from the MDMA
So I tell her I have something else that she can take
To fade away
And when she wakes
She knows that she’ll feel safe with me
I know she won’t remember
But this place
And all the friendship that you gave will never fade
Lying awake
I catch your gaze
Your eyes are glazed
Did I mistake you for more than a phase?
So tell me
What is the reason?
What is the value?
What is the life you’d give to someone strange?
